Here are the "given" formula for WWs and other alloys. I find they can be different and some times with many other metals, such as cadinum in them. Cadinum is a nasty chenical to discover in your melter.

Here are the alloy mixtures:

Alloy               %Tin               %Ant              %Lead             BHN

WW                  .25                  3                      96.75            12

Lyman #2          5                    5                      90                 15

Linotype            4                    12                     84                22

Pure Lead          0                    0                     100                 5

50/50 Solder      50                  0                       50                17.5

There are many other alloy that are useful in bullet casting, but these are the main ones.

Hope this helps people to understand what alloys we use.

Jerry

actually 15 to 20 % is how much loss from other than in a bucket of ww.the clips, valve stems, clods, ciggie wrappers, bolts, discarded chaws, dead stink bugs and other unwanteds are included.
100 lbs of ww will make 80 to 85 lb of ingots.

I bought 198 pounds of wheel weights yesterday and the yield was 165 pounds of clean ingots. Thats 83% yield.

I shoveled about 400 pounds of dirt off the pistol range at the local club. It yielded 120 pounds of clean ingots. A lot of work but it was free.

i helped a couple of friends clean out the bullet trap at their clubs indoor range several years ago... there must have been at 700=800- lbs of lead yeilded from that excursion .....       all of my bullets (several thousand) are cast from that lead....   it was a simple slanted steel wall with a sand trap under it so it was pretty easy to clean out.............  there was enough lead for all three of us and they took more than i wanted....     i have enough cast bullets to last my lifetime probably.....    :thumbs:
