I use a lot of Gas Checks, mostly Gator Checks, but have used Lyman and Hornady.
To buy Gator Checks you need to be a part of a group order and buy 30K or more.
So for a few cast bullets I do use other brands when I am trying out a new caliber.
What do you all use? Plus I am having a poll on who uses what.
For the moment, lets not include Free Checks, I or some one can start a separate thread on Free Checks.

I used Lyman gas checks when I first started casting but had some trouble with them coming off, so I only use Hornady crimp on gas checks now.

I've used Lyman and Hornady. Couldn't tell any difference between them. Still have 'most a full box of each brand - one for .357 and one for .429.

Have only used Hornady for years but now just got in on a group buy for Gator checks. I'm interested in how they compare to the Hornadys.
Plus the Gator's are cheaper to buy than the other manufacturers checks, only catch is that group buy of 30K or more.

I've used the really old Ideal checks, Gators, Lyman, RCBS(although made by Hornady)and lots of the Hornady's. I like the Gators and Hornady the best, they crimp on and stay on as long as the check shank is completely filled.

I've only used Hornady and have been very satisfied with them. I have recently gotten into the group buy on gator checks, but have not gotten/used them yet. I'm looking forward to seeing how they compare.

i mainly use gator checks.
i have a couple of boxes of hornady checks.
kicking around but they are for the 348 and 8mm.
i have some old ideals around too.
but the bulk of the ones i mostly shoot 22,7,30-31,35,41,44 are all gators.Last edited on Mon Mar 1st, 2010 02:28 AM by runfiverun

I mostly shoot PB bullets in pistol cal period. But in my somewhat limited experience (.357, 30-30) with pistol and rifle GC's I do prefer the Gators over the others. The Hornady labeled brand, I haven't tried, hear good reports though. Last edited on Sat Mar 6th, 2010 12:39 AM by Sprue

Many, many years ago when I started casting, I used Lyman. When I switched to shooting steel critters only with cast bullets I had some problems with the Lyman checks falling off some bullets so I decided to use Hornady and have only used Hornady checks in silhouette competition for over 25 years.
Best,
Ed
