i was reading another thread ( about current availability and prices) and i almost asked there but knew this was the proper place so i started a new thread ....

first off , the question ..(erm my question lolz )

anyone use wolf 209's yet ? ( gimme details plz or like dislike)
i ask because i havent tried them and i note that in some places i dont see my old standby's and i see that online someplaces are drying up , i realize i mite have to ask this question about others too lolz such as fiocchi's lolz

as for my fav's .. i love the federal 209 a's it seems to do the same thing a standard 209 does with appox 1 grain less powder( i'm a economical sorta guy )and they seemed cleaner ( IMO ) than win's and cci's and i freely admit that i also hadnt tried the rp's ( the two sizes kinda turned me off long ago ) and when i found the 209 a's i fell in love

Haven't used wolfs yet, though from my reading many seem to like them, and it's recommended to use Win 209 data. I've been using all Fio 616 recently and my feeling about them is mixed. I'm using them because they are cheap, bottom line. They all go bang and the clay birds are just as dead, but I have to spend a little more powder and more pressure compared to others. Have to go over 10k psi just to get target load velocity. Not a huge deal but, say, CCI 209M can do it for 9k and 1.5gr less powder...

W209s for most applications. If I really want a hot primer, I've still got some Alcan 220 Max-Fire primers. Rarely need anything like that.

Have been using Wolf handgun primers lately, but have not usd their shotgun primers. In loading 1,000 pistol primers, and having shot some 300+, I like them.

i'm not down to wolf pistol primers yet ( but perhaps i should be working up loads lolz ) i have been working on small rifle loads with them tho ,so far they all went bang ...

i've used a fair few cci's and win's they work but i dont think i've encountered any lately ( hence the thread lolz ) when i tried the fed 209a's as i said i kinda fell in love, decent patterns fairly clean etc but reading the other thread it keeps dawning on me that one day ( all too soon) i'll be out of them ,
thanx for the input so far amigos !

I've used a lot of Winchester, Federal, and Cheddite....mostly on target loads.  I have also used CCI209M, Remington 209P, and Fiocchi 616 primers in various hunting loads.

No dislikes, really.....I have had problems in the past with the Fiocchis; seems like after a hull has been primed with the 616 primers, the primer pocket acts as if it is 'stretched out' and won't hold another primer....except the 616!  Don't know if it is a standard thing, or if it was just a 'bad batch' of poor Q/C primers.  I had to toss a whole lot of Federal 16 gauge hulls that I couldn't use anymore!:eek2:  Couldn't find any more 616s in the area, and Federal 16 gauge hulls (or any 16 gauge hull, for that matter) is getting pretty hard to find.

As to Wolf products:  I am leery of using ANY product that comes from a former communist country.....after having two of my dogs poisoned with what I believe to be melamine, and after having to go through a heparin recall at our hospital (because the Chinese heparin vials had NO heparin in them!), I just assume go without......these were supposedly products that were 'regulated' by government agencies, and they got in & caused serious injury and harm.  To the best of my knowledge, there is no such government envolvement in the manufacturing of ammunition or reloading components.
Just MHO and 2 cents...................

I've always used CCI 209's, like somewhere around 200,000 of them in the last 30 yrs. This past year, CCI's where hard to find so I bought 10k Win 209 and 10k Fiocchi 616, but I have waited to use them until I run out of CCI's.

Last week at our skeet range, a guy was shooting reloads with Wolf primers. A 6" flame came out of the end of his barrels at every shot. He said it was his same old load, only with Wolf primers. I don't remember seeing the flames with his old loads.

Im a fan of federal 209's. They are hot and rarely get squibs.

I forgot to mention, I had a squib with Fio 616 this weekend. I saw the wad fly about five meters so I was pretty sure there were no obstructions, had to stop shooting and make sure though. Everything did make it out of the barrel, but it was a very weak ignition.

Many things could be blamed for this including myself or my loading, but I can't really think of a scenario where the powder charge was wrong. I watch each shell closely as it goes through the process. Think it was probably either an obstructed flash hole or the primer itself.....
