I have never done it. Any special concirns, favorite loads? And has anyone ever tried a .72 RB in a 12 gauge? It seems the .72 RB fit better in the .729 bore, is it true?

Consider that, normally, you still put the round ball inside a shotcup wad, so there is your need for space.
Looking in my Lyman manual, I show .662" balls inside of Fed. and Rem. wads. While I don't have those exact wads, Winchesters and Federals I DO have, caliper in right on .030" petals.
.662" ball + .060" wad petals = .722".
The .690 balls are no-petals (modified wad).
all are roll-crimped.
Does anyone MAKE a .720 ball?
I don't think I'd want to shove a very-near-bore-dia. ball thru a choke, but then, that's just me. Would sure have to be a slug/cylinder barrel IMO.

I do a few variations of the following load, but I've copy-and-pasted the original Tri-Ball load for three .60" Round Balls.
Excellent indeed! Now you good folks can make up some homemade Tri-Balls for yourselves.
Now...let's talk about what to do and what not to do! First of all use a good straight wall hull...we like the 12 ga 3" Cheddite from Graf & Sons.
The BPI wad was the first wad we used, but later went with the Precision Reloading TUPRW123 (orange)....it's a little tougher wad.
Next is the powder...Using 28 to 31 grs of Blue Dot will work, if you are careful about getting the crimp length of no more that 2.71" OAL for repeating guns.
Next...be sure the balls a tapped down tight in the wad! Use a wood dowel and a rubber hammer....and tap light! Then a buffer must be vibrated down around the balls until the buffer just covers the top ball. Tap again to be sure the balls did not move up while you vibrated the buffer in. The best buffer we have used is the Teflon buffer from Precision Reloading, but we have also used BPI's fine grade buffer.
Now Friends, there has been hundreds of deer and hogs killed with Tri-Ball loads over the past four years. It has proven itself in the field indeed. By following in detail these instructions, you can reloade/load Tri-Balls yourself indeed. Do not try to push the envelope more that I have posted here on powder. Use hard balls that will not setback and cause sidewall pressure.,,,you can even heat treat the balls if you want to, but it is not needed if you use WW with a little tin added.
Why does Ole" Dixie give out the recipe to Cast Boolits?....simple, most fellows here do not buy factory ammo and we also cater to the cast bullet folks indeed.
Be careful and stay with the recipe I have posted.
This is a real thumper - at both ends.

I'll bet it is Colt, a real thumper, both ways. 3 .600 round balls, that's gonna be a lot of weight.

I wouldn't shoot a RB out of anything tighter than IC for accuracy purposes. I have seen .72 RB molds and Balls. They are for the old .72 Kodiak double rifle, and it was a double barrel muzzle loader that shot .72 round balls.

I would much prefer an un-choked barrel for solid projectile loads to any choke constriction as well, slugs or round balls.

I never get accracy with anything tighter than IC. I just dont see a need to shoot slugs through anything tighter. IC centers them in the barrel plenty, but I have heard people getting 2" groups at 50 yards with a full choke and rifled slugs so who knows.

What is the weight of 3 .600 balls?

I first shot that Tri-Ball load out of a Brazillian (I forget the make) single shot. A 5 1/2 pound gun. Just did that once. Even out of a 7 1/2 pound 870, it's a tooth-rattler.

Another 3 Ball load to try:
Fiocchi (3”) Hull, 16MM Brass
FIO 616 Primer
28.5 Grains of Blue Dot
BP Turkey Ranger X12X Wad = Slit wad with 2 full-length slits
Later went with the Precision Reloading TUPRW123 wad
Three .570” Hardcast Round Balls
.135 “ overpowder wad, in place over the balls
Roll Crimp
The original load used 25 Grains of Buffer. I left that out, still excellent results. I also reduced the powder charge to 28.0 Grains, and use either .570” or .575” Round Balls. (I have molds for both sizes).
