I went on a pack hunt last year. I took my 270 WSM instead of my 300 mWinny because of weight issues. I took down a 6x6 Elk with it using Winchester Fail safe factory loads.

For water purifying I took a MSR Miox system weighs next to nothing. I would also get a Rino 120. A guy we were with had one and it was the best thing since sliced bread. I went out and got two. The only other thing that I would take that has not been mentioned is a skull cap. MRE's would probably be the best way to go if your hiking your food in.
