Some testing by Hodgdon back in the mid '70s show that with two identical loads, with one roll-crimped and the other star-crimped, the roll-crimped shell will have a slightly lower muzzle velocity. In the data I've seen, the difference isn't enough to make a large difference in the performance. I roll crimp some birdshot loads just because I like the looks of them. DC
