Folks,
After several years of not having a Chrony, it's about time that I ask Santa for one. I think it's only 63 days until Christmas.
So within reason what would be a good Chronograph? I was thinking of a digital one, so maybe a PACT or a ProChrono. I know there are others on the market, but these two are the only ones I actually have hands on experience.
I had access to a commercial one when I lived in the big city.

I've been thinking of asking for the same thing for Christmas :D
I like the Beta Master Chrony with the remote display. They are priced at about $130 I think. Whichever one I get, I'm aiming for the remote so it can be set on the bench.

I was all set to buy the Beta chrony from Cabelas and then went and put a gun i liked on sale and that was that and I am still without a chrony.
I was going to go with that one simply because a lot of good reviews and the price was good. No experience at all with one.
Have a good one, Guy

I have an Alpha Chrony which has served me very well. I got this model because I found it cheap locally. If I were asking santa to drop one down the chimney this year I would go for the Beta Master, or heck, shoot for the moon and a Gamma Master with printer. A printer would be really cool for long strings...
I've heard PACT are good too, but my only experience with them was letting a guy at the range use my chrony to measure some 375 H&H handloads because his PACT was malfunctioning.

I've got a Pact MK IV that hasn't been any problem for over 15yrs now. It has a built in ballistics calculator and I got it with the printer too. Been a really good one.

I have a beta master....got it so I can have the buttons to scroll and the readout right there next to my shooting rest.....for those that have a shooting chrony and want the little 2 button remote....HINT*** it is VERY easy to make....just go get two small momentary push buttons and a rc jack , connect them to the rc jack on the different channels and voila you have the remote

You've probably already seen this but they have specs for all their models on their webpage. If you get one model you can also upgrade it later on for a relatively small fee.

I am starting to lean toward the Gamma Master, it's for Christmas, so I can wish.
Midway stocks it, are there any other suppliers that may have this?
Anyone have experience with the PACT Chrony, they are suppose to be excellent.
Thanks,
Jerry

Mine is the Alpha Chrony. Simple and does what I need it to do. Good tip on the DIY remote! Have to brush the dust off my soldering iron.......

I have the Pact XP Chrony and have nothing but problems. Pact had it for several months and sent it back 'repaired'. Still doesn't work. Back at Pact again. Research the web you will find the same problem popping up over and over on the web. Maybe I got a bum unit...I don't know.
In the meantime I purchased a CED. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=773378
No issues so far.

The CED doesn't have a printer, but I just bring it home, plug it in to the PC and download all of the data and save.

When I am testing rounds, I need to know velocity then, but I have notebook computer in case I need something in the field, so I can download the data and see how far my WiFi network covers.

You can review everything in the field on the LCD screen. You can review all of your shots, High/Low Velocity, ES, SD, plus a host of other information. Need to know your Power Factory for IDPA, it is all built in. No need for the computer except to save the data to a file to keep forever.

Would you recommend the PACT? I am not in a money is no object situation, but Katie said that I could order or go to the store for what ever I want for CHristmas in December, within $300 to $400.
Is yours this one?

Jerry That's the one Jerry. Never had a problem with it and I've had it for5 years now. The CED M2, IMHO, is a POS. I was ammo nazi at a National match and had 2 of them, the primary and the check, die. There was no end of problems with them.

I am getting varied results from all directions on which one is the best one to buy. It appears they all have problems and failures.
