No this is not a Real Estate Ad, it would be nice if members would put the state or city or province where they are located. This could with trading stuff, getting needed supplies to those who can't find materials and many other helpful things.

I am in a small town (pop about 500) named Sweden.
It is in Southern Oxford county in Maine. If you put your finger on the western boarder about half way up the straight line part of the boarder, your finger will land on us.
We are about 11 miles from the New Hampshire boarder by the town of North Conway NH.
Basically miles from everywhere...lol
but, we like it.

Guy,
I live near a small hamlet, smaller than a village, that lost it's Zip Code, because it is so small.
And I live outside of this hamelet, but it is nice to know where people live.

Jerry, I forgot .....we never had a zip code, gas station, or store of any kind in "town" In fact there is NO village.....The village I mention in the shooting range thread is the town next to me , Lovell. The range I use is 2 towns away....12 miles, which is also where I work since there are no businesses in my town at all.
My dad owns both sides of the road for 1/2 a mile and I am in the middle of that....Love it..

In Somerton, there is the Stumptown Pallet Company. I drove out Stumptown Road, there is no Stumptown around here. The pallet factory is the only business and they are idle because of the economy.
Somerton does have one really good claim to fame, they have an outstanding Volunteer Fire Department. 2 Squads, hook and ladder truck, pumper truck and a tanker truck. Plus they are only a couple minutes away from me.

when asked for my location i often reply "in my skin" in truth i guard my identity and my location somewhat,safe to say i'm in the true heartland of america not the spastic colon that wants to call it's self the heartland(spastic colon is the upper mississippi valleys for those who cant figure it out )i'm pretty much centrally located just a wee bit south and and a wee bit west and there's nothing between me and the north pole but a barbed wire fence ...and it blew down,summers will bake ya almost to death and the winters will make u love that intolerable heat in the summertime lolz ,i live in tornado alley and there is nothing quite as beautiful as mother nature also few things as deadly as she can be from time to time ,if u was to grab a globe and put ur finger over what u thought was the center of the usa u'd be covering me up ,there's a sign i remember well ( tho it's not the name of the town per say) midway usa thaz where i'm from and good lord willin where they'll plant me ( or close enough to it )

Agree that some less than precise location definition is good. But localizing to some degree would enable like minded individuals to meet at some neutral place for "coffee" and jibber-jabber.
So I'm in the Endless Mountain region in PA. That's a slew of square miles to search. Close enough for a mason jar now and then.

You live in Minnesota? That state fits the description you gave. Try living in Calgary, Alberta for 6 years, heat, cold, extreme cold. Somebody that I used to live with in Alberta, she told me that there are only two seasons, Patio and Winter.

llz nope amigo minnesota has trees to block part of the wind and besides it's north and east of the center ( read that yankee land ..almost)i'm out here on the wind swept plains not too far from what they called " jornada de muertes " on the old santa fe trail
edit for add.. we do have about 3-4 days of spring and a few days of fall ( dont blink or u'll miss them lolz )

Have a good cyber friend in Arkansas named "Goatlady" who moved from Ohio(?) several yrs ago to escape the cold. Point is, she is far back in the hills and likes her anonymity. I tell folks that I am way too near Charlotte, NC which covers lots of territory. Really there is no such thing as privacy anymore. If you doubt it just punch up your name on Google or a search engine. Or, put in your telephone #. Or put in your mailing address. You can get arial photos of your home showing your parked cars, details of your life, and much more than you wish people could find out. Financial statements are not hard to get on you, credit reports, academic records, and criminal records including driving offenses. Still, I am not advocating disclosing personal info or locations for security reasons. Some do not or can not gain info on you so why give them an edge. LOL, now that you are looking over your shoulder don't worry about it. The gub has had this ability for decades and you are still here. Hey, take heart--change is coming, wc

How about maybe the state people live in? Besides anarchy or confusion.
Even with people using "handles" there are methods to track down that person's location.
These are methods that a computer savy older adult can do to locate people, it doesn't require a 14 year old to locate people, the 14 year olds are interested in other things.

The jornada del muerto is in the middle of the Land of Enchantment, between Las Cruces and Socorro, named so by the Spainards due to no water for over 100 miles. That is strange because the Rio Grande flows between Las Cruces and Socorro but maybe the Spainards took a different route going away from the river.
The Santa Fe trail starts in Taos NM and goes northeast thru Oklahoma, Kansas to Missouri. The northern branch of the trail goes thru Colorado to Kansas. So guessing Fry lives in either Kansas or Missouri, more likely Kansas.
The Land of Enchantment is the state of New Mexico. I live in the southeast corner of the state which is on the north east reaches of the Chihuahuan Desert.

i used to live in the middle ( more or less ) of nuevo mejico,(odd how i find the middle no matter where i go ...)the very first american "jorando de muerte" was indeed of the spainish conquistdors into southern new mexico ,the dry route of the sante fe trail doesnt quite get to colorado cuts down by oklahoma and new mexico starts up by dodge city ,amigo ? lolz for folks headin west it ended in taos lolz ,the dry route of the santa fe trail did save a few miles but at the wrong time of year cost many pilgrims everything ( sometimes even in the right time of year ),they call another state big sky country ( and there's parts of it that make ya believe it ) out here there's nothin but sky ,no mountains inna way of the view and a ocean of what once used to be grassland ( in the rainy years anyways)missouri is a lil right of center ,my dad was born and raised in the ozarks and while i have lived there too i find myself in the center lolz or a lil south and a lil west of

one only has to recall what the spainish were doing ,they were looking for gold and the seven golden cities etc ...what better place than around volcanoes .coronado only made it out past here looking for the same thing ,but they did bring the horse !

Fry, I've read about the dry part of the Santa Fe Trail that you talk about. There was a professor from University of Oklahoma that wrote a series of books, if I remember correctly called "The Spanish Bit Saga". I think his name was Cooper. The books are based on a compilation of stories, culture and history of several tribes of the Plains Indians starting in Tejas and going north using a Spanish horse bit to get the story going. Good books and stories. He used the Santa Fe Trail somewhat in his stories and talks about the dry part of the Trail.

I was born on the extreme western highlands of the Ocooch Mountains and, after a bit of moving around the midwest, am now firmly entrenched in the Eastern Foothills of the same range. In a few weeks I'll make my annual pilgrimage to a treestand about 6 coulees north of where I grew up in search of a magnum whitetail. Rockydog
