I called a retailer and asked him why he was selling his so called "Norma" brass so cheap on his website. He laughed and said he just wanted to give everyone a good deal!

So I ordered 100 primered brass (300mag) which just arrived. Not only are there areas of dis-coloration and a bit of surface corrosion on the cases, there is a light green colored corrosion on some of the primers.

What should I do with this stuff? Send it back...Knock out the primers and use them?

The brass is headstamped Browning and some of it looks OK.

hmmm how cheap is cheap ? and do they fire ? if a few are duds i would at least consider depriming them or lodging a complaint ,sounds like something left in a humid climate ( hence the verdigris ..ermm the green growing stuff )if really cheap order some more ..if average ....[shrugz] ur call amigo ,if the brass is purported to be a-ok and it's not it goes without sayin ,if purported to be blems etc ....if the corrosion is etched i'd send them back but ..it sounds shady already or at the least questionable practices...

I have to go with Fryboy on this one, if the price is right and you don't have to absolutely depend your life on these cases, buy them up.

Where did you get them from?

Jerry

Knock out the primers and polish the cases up.

A Canadian website called Higginson Powder. They advertise "new" Norma brass for 24 bucks (50). I ordered 100. Its a real mixed bag: some corrosion is etched, some isn't; some primers are OK, some are ugly.

I'll go through the bag tonight and see how many good ones I can put aside.

I'm prettty pissed at the outfit for not telling me upfront it was substandard material and I might just tell VISA to cancel the whole deal.

I heard somewhere that corrosion on primer material was chemically unstable and possibly dangerous so I thought I'd ask.

(I wonder what NORMA would think of all this if someone were to tell them?)

i found the website and the add..they state new norma brass and thaz it doesnt say old stock or growin green or even primed,as to what norma would say ...prolly that when they left the factory it was fine , they after all have no control over it after it leaves ,$24 per 50 is fairly cheap at least for norma brass in good condition, midway here is $139 per 100 ( $70 per 50 )i dont know what kind of better business bureau u guys have up there( or even the difference between our currency atm but even if at same value thaz less than half price .....)i'd punch the primers if u keep them or return them if u wish and can ,depends on the cases really if they'll clean up ok or not

edit for add....the link below is for 20 new cases from midway at a cost of $30.99 ( out of stock tho)

Afrqaid I couldn't deal with that. If it's advertised Norma brass, I want to see a headstamp that say's Norma. Expensive as bras is I'm not going to go broke buying new brass. I don't know what I'd do about that but it's BS to me.

Ya it is BS. But I don't mind the different headstamp because I know NORMA does make brass for various other companies ( I emailed them about this). My problem with all this is that I didn't just read the ad and buy the stuff: I actually phoned the company and asked them why NORMA brass is being sold so cheaply in a market where it usually carries a premium price tag and was lied to. The guy had the chance to say "Well it has a few spots of surface corrosion so we have to cut the price down " but he didn't.

If no one thinks its dangerous I'll pull out as many good ones as I can. if NORMA says theres no way this is one of their products I'll send it back.

(go Phillies!)

I certainly wouldn't use any corroded primers. If you get one that's corroded to the point of rupturing, the gas coming out around the bolt will not be pleasant to say the least and could result in some shrapnel or excessive noise also. RD
