I have some thousands of 250g JHP bullets and I was wondering if they can be used in a .45 acp? Attachment: resized.452.jpg (Downloaded 29 times)

Sure they could be used, as long as you load them short enough to fit a magazine. Prob. looking at velocitioes in the 700 fps range. 20 grains heavier than a standard ball 230 gr round, 5 to 10% off the same 230 gr loading would likely work.
I'll take a look later in my manuals downstairs.
I would not expect enough velocity to get good, reliable, reaction out of the HP tho........

Ken,
I can't find any data in all of my info about using this bullet in a 45 ACP, but I did find data for using this in a 45 Win Mag.
That data is for 250 grain jacketed bullet:
Powder Start Max
Unique 10gr 11.5gr
2400 18gr 20gr
IMR4227 21gr 24.5gr
My middle son and I still shoot this cartridge in our contenders and this is a fine cartridge for some serious plinking.
What a box or bag of these cost?
Jerry

yep, i am striking out all over the place. it seems that the 45 acp will take the jacketed or plated .452 at 230g or lower, or above 230g as a cast bullets. I did find a 260g for a .451 but it was for the .45 auto rim.
well I still have a .454 Casull to shoot some in.
I have been selling the 250g out of the garage for $17 per 100 and the 300g for $19 per hundred. I can ship up to 2000 in a $11.05 flat rate box.
I might be intrested in selling them by the pound privately. I have quite a bit that i would like to to sell.
by the way Jerry, recieved today send tommorrow.

Well, I'll be darned.
I found, in my old "Bullet and Powder Update" to handloader's digest, a Sierra bullet maker load of a 240gr Sierra HP.
6.4 gr. unique, 850FPS. Nothing else listed, I'd start a tad lower if it were me, between 5.5 and 6 I think.
My Lyman 45th maxes out @ 230 gr, but the similar Unique load is 5 to 7.2 grain max. (664 to 960fps).
Last thing I have, is from my Alliant pamphlet, 240 gr JHP, 7.1gr Power Pistol, 890fps, 22,200psi (a definite max there). I would try 6.5 or so and see how it shoots.

do you think i could use AA#5 or Win 231? i have crap loads of those. I sold off all my Unique when i bought and started using the dillon 650 because it works so well with ball powders.

Well, again, I'll be darned (looking like a pattern here LOL).
My Accurate Arms Big Red Book, actually lists a Nosler 250 gr JHP. Accurate #5 (I think that is the "AA5" you are refering to), load from 7.2 to 8 grains, 752 to 854 fps, 19,100psi, OAL of 1.230"
Dunno why I missed looking in that book last night, and it was upstairs for a diffterent purpose today. I forget it sometimes as I have never made much use of it's powders and data.
Best of luck to ya.

Speer #11 lists a 260 Gr load, but it is a fairly short bullet, I'm not sure about the length of yours. It could take up too much case volume when seated to proper length.

Your bullets may work with some tweaking but I dont think they were designed for the ACP.With a heavier than normal bullet a slower than normal powder should be considered.

No,it won't. That is cast bullet diameter for a .45, but, it will be an odd load IMO, as geezer said, I think it's a bullet intended for the 45 Long Colt cartridge, not the Automatic cartridge. It'd be much more at home there atop a bigger charge of slow powder.

Not being too up on the fron-stuffed charcoal burners (only have 1), wouldn't a 45-slug have to be saboted into a 58 bore?
It's 44 that get saboted into the 50's aren't they, .430 bullets?
Yea fryboy, I forget about the "extended" .45 armor-piercers like the casull. LOL
That 250 grainer prolly make one heck of a hunting slug in one for light game like deer.

its just that i have tens of thousands of both 300g and 250g. unless you have a need for a jacketed or plated bullet like the casull, you go with cast or a gas check because of the price. the 45 colt performs quite well with a lead cast bullet. thats why i was looking to get rid of as a 45 acp. and its looking like its not going to work. crap Attachment: resized.452.jpg (Downloaded 8 times)

and as u said u have a ummm ton of'em ...
actually the sabots depends...they have sabots for most muzzle loader calibers ,including the 451's 452's in both 50 and 54 cal as well as the 44 ones, i been using cheap 45 colt/acp cast for plinkers lolz and i love the great plains slugs for hunting ,these do have some wicked lookin hollow points ,sierra made a gaping hollow cavity( or few) that is awesum at lower velocities,i admit i've been really curious about this since u listed them ...especially as to what velocities they were designed for intended application etc i also was into ummm other rounds than the big newer 45's tho the 500 mag was temptation personified lolz

these are .452 not .451. i think that would bring the pressures up too much for a .45 acp. I would like to be wrong about that. i was going to use 231 ( 5.5g) or AA#5 (7.3g) because my dillion powder system really likes the ball powders.
