I bought a custom rifled slug barrel for my Super X Model 1 about 12 years ago, it cost me about $350. It was set up with some really nice sights for me.

The place I got it from isn't there any more.

I am not sure about what a regular barrel for Super X Model 1 would cost, but I bought a 870 on sale about a month later for about $160.

So that would be a $600-$700 barrel now? Not good, Benelli is always more expensive. I just wanted a 22" heavy smooth bore barrel. I don't like the 18.5" Smooth bore (too light=heavy recoil) and I don't like the 24" rifled barrel because sabot ammo is so expensive.

:groaner: Why didn't I get that Mossberg 835 the day I bought the nova?

Nova,

The Super Mod 1 is a long discountinued shotgun so pieces and parts are not cheap for it.

Most of my shot shell shooting is done with a Rem 870.

I would check out Midway or Ballistic Products to see what they may have.

Here are a couple of places on the net that have "stock" barrels:

http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=9935_16854

http://www.benelliusa.com/parts_and_accessories/barrels.php

http://www.dawsonent.com/browse.cfm/2,4.html

If they don't have what you want ask these places if they know of anyone who has what you want.

Prices are up in the $400 plus range on these barrels.

Hope this helps,

Jerry

I have found that Ithica shotguns are good, but sort of generic in quality. There are a few hunter around here who have Ithicas that the finish is worn away and they still shoot well.

I am going to get into loading sabot round, but probably next spring.

Take care,

Jerry

Try this load...

Hull-Remington 2 3/4" (I prefer RPX or gun club)
Primer-Win 209
Wad-Clay Buster 3118
Slug-Buck Buster 1oz. Shotgun Bullet (they are really called bullets)
Powder-800x 27gr.

Velocity-1450

I found the Buck Buster Slugs at gander mountain for 2.99 a box of 25. This is the load I'll try first in my gun. It is so simple, so cheap, and incredibly accurate. I got 1.5" groups at 50 yards with a H&R slug hunter scope combo.

Thanks, this load sounds interesting, the Mossberg 395 I am getting will be scoped and is purely going to be for slugs and buck shot. So this should fit in well.
