I looked up the weight on comparable Mark 4's and VX-III's and there was a considerable difference between the two in weight. Maybe a little heavier componets???

I had not ever thought of looking at that. Good catch. My thoughts are if you are going to improve on the VX III, you make the main tube tougher and the adjustments beefier. With the added weight the Mark 4's have I would bet that is what they did.

Force_ Recon, if you compare any of the more expensive Euro glass to the rest, you will notice that those scopes tend to be somewhat heavier.
A friend pointed out something to me. There is a lot of good quality glass for bright daytime use. But at the peak dawn/dusk times, usaully the higher end European optics stand out much more. I was told that the Black Forest of Germany is not called the Black Forest because the trees are black. It is called that because very little sun light makes it in during high noon much less at daybreak/sunset. The Europeans tend to literally hunt in the dark.
I have just recently purchased a Zeiss Conquest 4.5x14-50 with tactical turrets. Unfortunately it and my rifle are at a gun shop getting accurized.(scope rings being lapped for concentricity) but the week that I had it showed alot of promise. I really like the very low profile tactical turrets. Most all of the other tac turrets scopes are big enough to hang Christmas orniments on and stay put. One other thing I like about it is even though it is a 50mm objective the outside diameter of the bell is actually the same diameter of my Burris 4.5x14-44mm.

No question, Trijicon Accupoint and Kahles, followed by Hawke, Mueller and Swift for a lower cost alternative. The first two are regardless of cost.

I like the higher end optics myself,I have had the lower quality units in the past and they seem to let me down at the worst times.I stick with better optics now and have no regrets except it takes alot longer to save for them.Try a Kahles if you want to split the difference.
