Not a problem. My question was:
Does anyone have any advice or experience with Alliant Power Pro Varmint powder? I'm not having any luck getting consistent accuracy with the powder. I'm loading 223 55gr FMJBT bullets and can't get better the 3-1/2" to 4" groups at 100 yards. I've tried 24.7 to 26 gr @2.20 OAL, but get the same results across the board. With Varget I'm getting 1" groups with 25.5 gr using the same bullets and OAL from the same AR 15 rifle.

If you don't know how to do that please don't use this data, for your own safety and the safety of others.

Edit by admin for over max loads!!!

cweed, How many different charge weights of Power Pro Varmint did you try? What was your data source? RD

10 rounds of each, starting @24.7 gr up to 26 gr, going up .1 gr at a time. Hand weighed each load on a Hornady balance beam scale.

I looked on the Alliant site and the only 55 grain data I can see is for 55 Grain Hornady V-max. The load listed is for 24.7 grains. Alliant suggests reducing their listed loads by 10% for starting loads. The 24.7 is their MAX! This would put you at least 5% over max with the 26 grain load. .223 cases are pretty small to be adding those amounts of powder. I'd start back at the 10% reduction as recommended, or about 22.2 grains.

Thanks for the info Rockydog. I'll load a dozen or so with 22.2 tomorrow and see how they do.

Loaded up 22.2, 22.5, & 23.0 gr, 5 rounds of each. 22.5 gr was the best of the bunch. The 22.5 gr rounds were pretty close to what I've been getting with 25.5 gr of Varget. Thanks for the help Rockydog.
