As someone who has dealt with all kinds of animals getting into houses, that is not as odd and obvious as you might think! I've asked similar questions (not scripted, as the show is), and received similar answers. Couldn't laugh like the show, that's unprofessional!

Been a long time since they've been on local to me (I think, it's also been a long time since I listened to FM on the commute).

The show seemed to get back-filled with more and more fake laughs over the years so I was less interested. I quit listening when Bob disappeared for a couple of months. Seemed obvious that he had enough. My Google-foo says he retired late 2015, and Kristi retired last year. I must admit, now I am a bit curious if the show has returned to a decent program - I may just have to give it a listen again.
