  Just a hypothetical  question?

This may have been posted before, but I have not seen it.

God & conservativism forbid, If you could only have or own  two rifles to cover all the hunting you either do or might do, what caliber in what make/model would it be?

Think on this one.

A friend of mine who hunts Africa and S. Texas says it would be a .375 H&H (I assume in a Win. M-70, since that is what he has) for his primary. Didn't ask him what the second would be.

Probably my Ruger M77 All-Weather in .30-'06 for one. It wears a B&C Leupold on a QDRTZ mount and has iron sights as well. Plus my Bushmaster V-Match carbine in 5.56 with EOTech and 3-9 mildot scope (both in QDRTZ mounts). They would cover a lot of ground.

Sure hope I'm never limited that way, though!

Ditto, my 1917 enfield 30.06 and the rock river AR, these should handle just about anything I need to shoot, and both two and four legged varmints

Fer some reason I had "centerfire" on my mind when this question was asked.

Now I'm reconsidering and might would drop the Bushie in favor of my Ruger M77/22. Pretty practical little shooter, that.

I hate playing evil games like this. 2 rifles sounds way too much  like a Democratic plan...

Anyways, I would pick my .388/06 for anything from whitetails on up, and a Savage 23 in .32/20 for small game and varmints. They would cover everything I'm planning on shooting.

Easy!

.22RF-doesn't blow rabbits and squirrels to inedible yuck!

.30-06-will take anything on this continent and put it in the freezer!

Blackhat since you through the tide bit about hunting Africa, I would say that my choice's would have to be the .338mag caliber and the .416 Rem. mag caliber, both in a model 70 Winchester.

Now had it been just North America, I would say the 6.5/06 caliber and the .338 Ultra mag.

OK, on the basis that the two rifles must be guns we now own. I would choose the Winchester Model 70 Classic switch barrel 338 WM/7mmRM gun. Then I would choose the 512 Remington 22 LR gun.

The switch barrel gun for very obvious reasons and the 512 because I have owned it for 53 years and I know it inside and out.

Rapier, I am curious to know, just what model 70 Winchester "Classic" that you have, which will inable you to swamp out barrels in a blink of an eye. I have several model 70 Winchesters (in .338 caliber too) however, changing out a barrel is NOT a quick solution mind you. Do you have som special model in the Classic Winchester?

Savage 11GL in 22-250 & a FAL

With the right load/bullet choice, they will take anything within reason.

I am curious about this one too, Raper? I too own several M-70s and never heard of such a thing. Unless you are maybe trying to out-smart my question and have only one action and several barrels?

I would have to take my mini 14 (580) and because it shoots as good as anything I have ever had in a short and handy rifle. The outher would have to be a 450 marlin guide gun because it can kill anything that the 223 can't.
