I got to Fort Hood the day before the Luby`s massacre happened in Killeen.I was in the replacement barracks waiting to go to a new unit when they locked Fort Hood down.
Terrible tragedy happened that day.Had Suzanna Hupp or anyone else had a pistol the loss of life that day might have been much lessened.
The guy that shot those folks was from the town I live in now.About 15 miles from Killeen.He was known as a bully of sorts.Always threatened his neighbors , and known to be a short fuse.
I am surprised he didn`t run across one of these ole bubbas here in central Texas that called his bluff and put lead in him before that happened.
Too bad it didn`t happen.I imagine there isn`t a day goes by that Mrs Hupp doesn`t wish she would have had her pistol that day
She was a big reason and the events that happened that day which shaped our CCW laws here in Texas..

Powerful testimony from that woman. She nailed it. What a tragic thing for her to see her father murdered before her eyes. Even more tragic is that she, in obedience to the law, left her gun in her car. That incident shows in stark terms that cut through all the BS what price the law-abiding pay when some misguided (using the most polite term I can think of here) lawmakers create a victim class by disarming good and decent people, while predators go rampant. Instead of a safer society, all they do is create free-fire zones in which the monsters are the only ones firing.
In the news these last few days was more evidence of the same, but in another big city halfway around the world (Mumbai, India). I don't know what the gun laws are like there, but I suspect they're restrictive - probably only the elite can own them. I heard no talk on the news about armed citizens fighting back. Interestingly, only one network (Fox) out of the 4 or5 that I watched (including MSNBC) dared to identify the terrorists as terrorists and/or Islamic extremists.
There's more of this kind of thing to come as terrorists become more emboldened. I'm not so certain that one reason they haven't tried such a ground-based assault here is because there's a lot of guns walking around and they can't be sure who has them. There are other reasons, of course, but that has to enter into the equation somewhere, even in the mind of a fanatic.
