Don, I believe 340 is correct. There was an earlier version 325 and the 340 was also designated by several letter series 340B, c, d, and V at least. All have that same big honkin' barrel nut though. RD

i voted for the 30-06 but only because i did not see the truely ultimate round the 7mm-08 the best deer round every but in close second is the 30-06

Tight between the 270 and '06. That's kinda how I feel about it. I give the edge to the '06 (wait for applause to die down).....because it handles heavier bullets better. A 165-180 grain bullet is my choice for whitetail. Of course, the WT that I'm chasin' are bigger than those river bottom deer out west. I've hunted about all sub-species, including the little Coues (which is about my favorite to hunt). Even so, I think the '06 has more range for a variable size animal.
