I once heard of a sihloette shooter that chambered a Wichita pistol in 460 Weatherby. Only fired it once. Broke his wrist.

J.D.'s place is just up the road from me. If you want a big gamer hand cannon, try his 375 JDJ. I have one of his Super 14 Contender barrels in 444 Marlin.

I have tried some of the bigger bommer calibers, one, the 6.5 mini dreadnaught, should be called hang on for dear life. The Whispers, which I have seen fired, are taking the concept of the 1911 45 ACP to a new level, very heavy, slow moving with a lot of energy transfer upon impact.

A Super 14 in 30-30 can beat you up as well as the 444 Marlin, but J.D. takes self abuse to new and higher levels.

I've got a 10" Contender in 7-30 Waters. I've gone to using shooting gloves to distribute the recoil a bit as the 7-30 gets you right in the web of the hand after about 3 shots even with the rubber backed grip. It's also very loud. If the range shelter is crowded a couple of rounds seems to make a few guys pack up. I'm no wimp but I'd rather shoot my 45 LC barrel with full house loads than the 7-30. The 45 might have more recoil but the 7-30 has a vicious "snap" to it. RD

I recommend that you get what suits you for the task that it needs to work on.

If you are hunting bear, the 375 JDJ is a good choice, because I don't want to be that close to the bear.

As that I own a 600 Double NE elephant rifle, there has not been a signing anywhere in North America of any wild elephant since I got that rifle, you scratch that need off your list.
