I am being asked a lot of questions, some can be explained by the website:

http://www.knivesby.com/handles.html

Here is how to make a hidden tang knife

http://www.northcoastknives.com/northcoast_knives_tutorials_hiddentangB.htm

This may answer some questions.

thanks for the websites jerry.i made a few about 30 years ago and havent tried since.nothing fancy, just full tang slab handle.picked up a 12"X2"X1/4"piece of titanium several years ago and have wanted to do something with it.thought it would make a heckuva bowie.ti is tough and might not chip and crack like a harder metal.have no idea what kind of edge it will hold.

Wheezen,

I have made a few knives out of Titanium, it is excellent for it lightness and it is tough. Titanium doesn't take a razors edge like hardened steel, but when defending yourself, you don't need a knife that is sharp. I was a guild Knifemaker for many years, I still have the knowledge, I just make knives for special orders and don't do shows any more.

When I am in the field, I carry two knives, one is a Tanto what has a fairly straight edge to it and can be pushed thru a lot of man made materials. The other one is a "Damascus" small skinner. The handled have gone thru a polymerization process so they are pretty water proof.

Just like pistol or a rifle, a good knife is an excellent tool to have when you are in the fields or the woods.

Jerry
