I was watching some show on the evolution of the M16 on the tube and they ended with a segment about the HK 416. This is an interesting rifle.
Here is what I found on Wikipedia:

It now seems the M16 is a reciver with many different accessories that include the barrel, stock, sights, grips and so on.
There are many places on the net and on cable that has some showing of this rifle, but do we have any folks who have actually shot one of these?

Civilian version supposed to be coming out later in the year. Probably be about $2500 price range. They are also going to have the 417 chambered in 762x51.

Jerry I just watched probably the same show you did on the M16 and it reminded me of this thread. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to fire one of these yet. We worked with some guys from a particular unit this last trip and they had 416s. From a second hand account I can tell you one of the guys said it was just ok. He said he preferred the recoil from a direct gas system for staying on target during fast CQB shooting. Something along the lines of, I don't care of if I can put my tongue on the bolt after firing 1000 rounds if it just doesn't feel right when I shoot it. These guys shoot so much they they probably just get set in their ways on certain weapons and don't like to change. I have heard many many positive comments on this weapon. Will be interesting to see if we start phasing it in over the next few years...

The M 16, even thou it was a unreliable rifle in the beginning has turned out fairly good.
