DITTO On Crazy`s post.
The rimfire will end him on the spot,but put it in his ear
same I would recommend with a 22magnum.
It`ll kill him with a heart shot,or you`ll be trackin him with a lung shot..
end it fast with a rimfire and a head shot.
I sometimes carry a Stevens 311,side by double as well as my 223 and will use the 12 gauge with #4 shot inside 30 yards if the dog will allow me the chance..
I`ve never truly considered a rimfire for hunting yotes off a call,but they will do the deed.Just make sure ya bust him in his melon(head) or hit a true vital heart/lung and if it were me,I`d say 50 to 75 yards max with a rimfire.

This weekend I'm taking my kid camping. I'm not going to actively seek coyotes. However, if I hear them yelp, I'm going to try out some new 357 mag loads I made for my lever gun.

A 357 Level Gun seems to be a good choice for 'Yotes at close range. There are many highly effective 357/38 bullets that can be used in this quest to rid the world of these pests.
I may get my 17 HMR rifle out and keep it next to the door for G' Hogs that are popping up with pups.

Got a G Hog this morning with my Savage 17 HMR rifle. I estimate the range at 70 yards. I used Federal ammo with the 17 grain bullet.

Well, I didnt have luck this past weekend trying my 357 loads on coyote. However, there was a suspicous looking RC cola bottle in camp. Took care of it 50 yards out with the little 17HMR. I'm gonna try again in about a week or so test my handloads.

I've heard the 17hmr is good on em to a hundered yards or so form a gang that has a couple of them. They have shot over 150 yote's in the past two years, howerver thier running them down with coon hounds so by the time the bullet meets em their just about done anyway. I just sold off my 22-250 and intill I replace it the 270 win and 110 hornadys or 90gr speers will have to do. (no tracking has been needed with either)

I like the 17 HMR, but ammo is hard to find in my area. So I am using my 10/22 T for the G Hogs at distaces beyound 10 yards and I walk around the fields with my Sig P220 on my hip.
Clearleaf, we are going to be visiting Windsor and Kitchener in November, are you relativity close to either city?

I'm coming in a little late on this but wanted to share an experience I had with the 17hmr. I was out plinking and target shooting about a month ago. Had been using a couple different 22lrs and a 17m2. I drug out the 17hmr and first shot out the front of the barrel this is what happened.
I was obviously to close. Should have read the warning on the back of the bullet trap before firing. It was around 60-65 feet away and the bullet was one of the 20gr.Last edited on Wed Sep 23rd, 2009 08:08 PM by Old Fart
