i bought a old 303 at the gun show 4 yrs ago cost me a whole $40 bucks worked a load up for it and i'll be dammed the gun shoots 1 1/2"groups at 100yrds with open sights consistently,my load is 174gr round nose bullets 49.5grns imr 4895 wlr primers and W.R.A. brass ,dropped the first bear my son and i seen dead in its tracks,its cheap and it still works |

The old Enfields are still shooters!  I load 174 grain FMJ in mine over a couple different powders, as availability suits - H4895, H4350 and now RL15. |

I'm loading 180grn round nose bullets on top of 39.0 grn H335 and hitting bowling pins at 200 yards easily. Plus it seems to have less recoil than the surplus rounds. |

I stuck a no gunsmithing scope mount on mine. I haven't tried it out yet. I have a couple of them. The last one cost me 75.00 about 18 months ago. |

several years ago my father-in-law tried to give me a rifle he called a 303 british... i was young an dumb so i didn't take it...... i would love to have it now......... i'd sportize it and reload for it..... i have seen a few sporterized 303 and they looked great................. my dumb ass!!!!!!!!!! |

A friend gave me this one some years ago cause he knew I liked a good restoration challenge! My friend had bought it for $7 in 1963 and it had sat in his safe ever since - Never shot. Wish I had a pic to show what it looked like - A real POS! Some "Bubba" had hack-sawed the stock and barrel. He also drilled and tapped the front sight crooked! It shot 6 to 8" high and about that much right AT 25 YARDS! I stripped, steam the dent and reformed the stock best I could and refinished it. Had the barrel recrowned. Drilled and tapped the front sight straight with the rear peep and replaced the front blade with a taller one. Turned out to be my favorite truck rifle. The peep and the lob sight (set all way down) are both at 50 yards now with 174 FMJs. Haven't really worked much with the lob sight, but that smaller aperture will help it to reach out farther. |

Ray, Nice looking rifle. I have owned many 303 over the years, some are tack drivers and others had problems with zeroing and staying zeroed. They are great rifles and played an important role in winning the Great War. Jerry |

I think it was the SMLE Jungle Carbine that had zeroing problems. So you are probably safe with yours. Good Shooting, Jerry |

Love the 303. I have shot some #5's that would hold 3/4" at 200 yards. Granted they were a bit special but there is a lot of infomation on forstock bedding. Five at 100 but we all know Enfields are no 100 yard rifles and lay down at or past 200 yards. Cheers ...MJ... |

The Enfields in the right hands was an excellent sniper rifle in the Great War, but that can be said about the situations in Germany, Russian and many of the other countries in WW II. Jerry |

I went diggin thru the safe today and rediscovered an Enfield my dad purchased for me just before I went into the Air Force. That was about 10 years ago. I butchered it and put a synthetic stock on it. I'm thinking next weekend, I'm going to take it out, as I havent shot it in about 6 years. Also, I want to find the original parts I still have floating around and put it back to stock. I went one time round for round against a FNFAL .308 at 200 yards with it. |

Sounds kind of like how I got mine. I worked shoveling out horse stalls for about 3 weeks to pay for mine. Cost me every bit of $60 at my cousins pawn shop about 30+ years ago. Some DA had chopped the barrel and stock and I had to braze the front sight back on. After I made an adjustable rear sight for it and loaded some ammo using 150gr bullets and AA3100 I got it to hitting about 2 inches at 100 yards. It's not the best looking in the world but I won't take anything less than $800 for it and even then I'm gonna think about awfull hard. Best thing I can say about other than the fact that it shoots good is it don't kick like my 458 mag. |
