What job? Target? Blowing up little critters at long rang? Hunting big game? Scott (maybe something in the .14 caliber) B |

the "job" part i meant on the behalf of who has used them. meaning that this person may use this bullet he has made for this specific purpose |

I have never had custom bullets made but there is a gentlemen at the range I frequent who had some bullets made by these guys http://gscustom.co.za/ for hunting in Africa for a 416 Rigby and a 500 Nitro Express. If you have the money go for it. Slingshot / Jeff |

A lot of people who cast their own bullets (Boolits to the initiated) design molds, or modify existing molds for a specific gun or purpose. Cast bullets can be made to different specifications of hardness, hollow pointed, sized down, sized up, heat treated, made with two components for a hard main body and soft nose, knurled, paper patched, gas checked, plain base, tapered base, ad infintum. All in the quest for more accuracy or increased terminal performance. In essence their own custom bullets designed to shoot from 700 to over 3000 FPS and commonly from .17 to .69 caliber. RD |

I have a several custom bullet molds, some are for specific rifles or pistols. Some are to use for some things like oversized rifling, other are for bullet weights that I wanted. There are and were many companies that carried or could make custom molds for people. My favor is Ranch Dog Outdoors, who just shut down because of the long lead time for molds from Lee Precision. I have ordered a couple of custom molds for my 357 MAX Contender, it has a GC'd, 250 grain SWC bullet with wide lube grooves. The other was a 190 gain Silhouette GC'd bullet with a specifically heavy crimp groove and a wide lube groove. Both of these molds work well, but have limited, if any, uses out side the Contender world. If you want a hollow point bullet, try this guy, he is really good. He did a mold that I have. http://www.hollowpointmold.com/ Other than some really special needs, most reasons to get custom molds maybe just the bragging rights. Many of the manufactures generally have something that will fill your needs. Plus custom molds are expensive and there maybe a long wait until you get your mold, like many months or a year. Jerry |
