I hope I put this in the correct Forum, if there is one for this question. I used Lehigh patch lube to coat the bore and cover exposed metal on my 1862 C.S. Richmond musket (Armi Sport)for storage rust protection. Well, I did not know that it had what is called "pine needle oil" in it...which turned to sap. I'm gonna take it all apart and use some brake clean or something to get this all off and out of it. What do you use for long term storage for black powder firearms?
I use the same oil on my blackpowder firearms as I do my smokeless firearms.
When it comes time to shoot the blackpowder rifles they get a good bore swabbing with alcohol soaked patches.
Okay...that will work for me. Now if I can just get all the sap out, which seems to be coming out with Hoppes. I hate to use something that may cause the powder/charge a problem but better than what I was seeing in there before I started cleaning it. Live and learn...thank you Quigleysharps4570.
