Got my dies from Buffalo Arms today, CH4Ds in 8x56 Kropatscheck. Also ordered 5 cases, converted from .348 Winchester, to see if the ones I made are the same. Both chamber a bit snuggly, but I'm going to check the neck thickness and base diameter, to see if that will help.

Should be fun to play with.

Charley, I love screwing around with stuff like this. It's a real accomplishment to take something that's marginably usable for whatever reason; age, condition, obsolescense, etc, and make it fully functional again. What you go through to make it happen though sometimes rivals the invention of it in the first place. Good luck with the project. Keep us posted. RD

Thought I had some pictures of the rifle, can't find them. I'll get some posted soon. Did fire it, shooting cut short by rain. Still have both eyes, and both hands, and accuracy was minute of rock for 5 rounds at 50 yards or so.

Very cool rifle. What did you make the cases from?

I made cases from .348 Winchester, with the rim beveled. Understand you can also make them from 8x50 Lebel.

As far as the deck color, it is just gray composite decking (Choicedeck). Composites work far better then wood in the climate around here.

was wonderin how u beveled the rim ,while i'm handy on a belt grinder i think i'd eithr chuck that in the drill and use the milling vise or go real slow on my wood lathe, i have a old star but ....i so need to get rid of it ( need the shop room and that thing is huge ! )
the color looks like one i did , they called it "winchester grey",i didnt care for the screws that were supposed to go with it ,like the hidden clips better ,the hand rail and stiles i invented something to make them happy [shrugz] just another day and another dollar lolz

I've got a Unimat lathe/mill that works really well for turning rims, shortening brass, and just general light work. Bought it originally for aircraft modeling, but do much more shooting stuff on it.

Here's my setup for shortening brass.
