Leftover pumpkins were readily used by whitetail deer in pennsylvania and I imagine mule deer would do likewise . Pumpkin isn't listed for deer in my  American Wildlife & Plants  A Guide to Wildlife Food Habits:use of trees, shrubs, weeds & herbs by birds & mammals of the United States by Alexander C. Martin;Herbert S. Zim & Arnold L. Nelson first published in 1951  this is a 1961 edition  I purchased this edition at the Univ of AZ  when I was working on my BS in wildlife mgt it's long since out of print once in awhile a copy will show up at barnes and noble.I loaned this along with lots of other items on food habits of deer & elk to the men I worked with in the san bernardino county probation dept who  hunted in calif, arizona & colorado.

let them pumkins hit the peak of ripeness

which coinsides with the peak of the deer rut in most places,

then you hit them with 168grains of fun at 3300 or so fps

,they explode in a spectacular

manner plus you have spread the dinner table for the doe's,

and everybody "nose" if you got doe's the bucks not far behind ......

..........to be followed 2 weeks later with backstrap steak and pumkin pie for dessert

I live near a community that has a Pumpkin Festival:

http://www.barnesvillepumpkinfestival.com/

I like Pumpkin pie, but no way for Pumpkin beer.

Plus there is still a zillion pumpkins decorating peoples yard for Halloween. The deer will have a field day soon.
