Good evening everyone,
I live in Fredericksburg, Va and was wondering if anyone in this forum knew of any particular places to go after G-Hogs. I kill a few on a friends piece of property, but he only owns five acres.
I am using a Model 700 chambered in .223 Remington. Nothing fancy, put potent enough to stop a whistlepig.

You have enough to take down any G'Hog out to some great distances.
I use a T/C Contender carbine in 223 and have shot hogs out to 250 yards, after that I have problems seeing. Maybe a more powerful scope.
But I try to take shots that end up in the dirt in my area that is easy, some areas you have to be elevated above the impact area.
You might try the Barnes Varmit Grenades on you G'Hog.

Your best bet for finding a place to do in whistlepigs in VA is call (in person) on dairy farmers. Now and then, one will allow (maybe even encourage) a trip into a pasture. By far, the majority of land owners post their property, you have to establish a personal contact to get on legally. I guess that is a pretty common thing most places these days.

Right now I have a G'Hog living in my barn, he/she boughed a hole through the barn siding.
I may put out a trap for it, as well as sit and wait for it to come out to eat.

We just don't have the number of whistle pigs in VA we had in the 70's and 80's . The best way to find a place to hunt is just stop and ask the farmer if they will let you shoot. The best time is just after they mow their hay fields. I took these in Scott County a couple of months back while trying to call in some coyotes for the farmer he had just mowed the field and wanted me to shoot the hogs if I spotted some.
