  • Rain!

Low pressure system moved in and is dropping rain (about an inch so far) here. Not a big deal to many in other areas, but rain deficit for the year here is about 7 inches. Been dryer than a popcorn fart. June gave us .71 inches, when average is about 4 inches. Good chances of more rain for the next two days. A nice gift for the 4th of July!

Raining in Wis. tonight too. We have had very adequate to borderline too much this year. We are finally at normal deep soil moisture back from a really dry year about 4 years back. RD

We are in the somewhat situation, severe drought. We usually get around 12" rain every year, this year so far, less than 1" and we are in rainy season. No good snow in about two years.

Yearly average here is 32 inches +-, but tends to vary widely. Running about a 6-7 inch deficit this year in rainfall. April gave us .02 inches, May was .83, Only considered "extremely dry", drought conditions start two counties west of us and run all the way to California. You're in the middle for sure. OTOH, east Texas and further east has had more rain than they need or can handle over and over the last couple of years.

40% chance of rain today, then another high pressure area moves in a stop everything. July/August are usually fairy dry, depending on tropical storms or hurricanes developing in the Gulf of Mexico, more specifically, the Bay of Campeche or over the Yucatan Those usually blow into Texas

Lots of times during rainy season remains of those tropical storms and hurricanes that move into Texas make their way into New Mexico and we get good rains. So far those systems are coming in from the west coast but they just go around us and dump water some other places. We have hills and mountains to the west and those deflect the potential rain away from us. To the east we have the beginning of the Llano Estacado (Staked Plains).

We got hit hard last night. Lost power around 9pm and can expect it to hopefully be restored around noon. Installing a generator hookup to the house is looking like a good possibility right now.
